WHY UK?
The UK has long been a significant world power, both economically and politically. London is the financial capital of the world, offering an international business environment. The UK is also renowned for having some of the best educational institutions in the world and an open, international culture.
Following a referendum in January 2020, the UK is no longer a part of the European Union. It is still a part of several major global institutions such as the Commonwealth, NATO, G7, G20, United Nations, and WTO, to name a few. The country welcomes immigrants, and UK Citizenship by Investment is one pathway to permanent residence, eventually leading to citizenship in the UK.
About UK Residency by Investment Program
The Tier 1 Innovator visa is aimed at those who can demonstrate relevant experience in business. It requires an individual to set up or run an existing business in the UK. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age and have at least GBP 50,000 in investment funds if they want to set up a new business. They do not need funds if their business is already established and has been endorsed for an earlier visa. The funding can come from any source.
Before one applies, one needs to have one’s business or business idea assessed by a Home Office–approved endorsing body. They will assess the viability of the business or business idea and, if approved, provide an endorsement letter to submit with the application.
The immigration rules distinguish between applicants who apply under the ‘new business’ criteria and those who apply under the ‘same business’ criteria. Individuals who go to the UK for the first time will need to apply under the ‘new business’ requirement.
Qualifications for UK investment visa
To qualify, applicants must invest GBP 50,000 into a new business endorsed and approved by the Home Office and produce a business plan.
To obtain their residence permit through this program, the investors must contribute a minimum of GBP 2 million to one or more UK-registered companies or in UK government bonds. Acquiring a residence permit through the Tier 1 visa program allows the investor to enjoy all the benefits of a UK passport without any restrictions. Additionally, by holding a UK permanent residence permit for a year and by residing in the country for a period of five or more years, applicants become eligible to apply for UK Citizenship.
Aside from the investment itself, there are specific other criteria that the investor needs to fulfil to acquire a residence permit through the UK Investor visa. Some requirements include opening a UK bank account, residing in the UK for a specified period, and proof that the investment amount has been obtained legally.
